I was pleasantly surprised to see a crowdSPRING beta invite waiting in my mail yesterday. This is one creative freelancing site that I’ve been looking forward to try out. I’ve tried guru.com (creativemoonlighter.com) and elance, and what they don’t have is a way to measure yourself up to other bidders. For someone (me for example) who’s not a professional designer, it’s hard to improve when all you see are bids day and night.

With crowdSPRING, you get to see the portfolio of who you’re bidding against, you get to see what they’ve designed for the project as well. It’s both a good thing and a bad thing, but openness is something clients will always appreciate.

Here’s a little info (i took this from their site) about who’s behind crowdSPRING:

With backgrounds in both the creative industry and law, crowdSPRING is a labor of love for a team that believes strongly in the creative process and the protection of intellectual property. We left no stone unturned – from free, binding legal contract generation for every transaction and advanced digital watermarking to a built-in, secure escrow service and a feedback rating system – we tried to make a safe environment for both Buyers and Creatives alike.

I’m no design expert, but I’m very much looking forward to growing and improving with crowdSPRING. Skills is one thing, inspiration is another :) I will post a review of their service soon.

If you haven’t received an invite yet, you can take a look at their blog while waiting for one.

Update May13: Forgot to update this post. This was fixed the following day. I didn’t do any changes. It just got fixed. So I’m guessing something somewhere was bugged. But it’s ok now.

I think wordpress is broken. I can’t go visual mode when writing a post/page. It says that the editor is Visual, but actually it’s HTML.

update May3: I’ve been at it for the past hour. Checked all my settings and it’s all okay. But the visual editor is still stuck with html mode only, even after checking an unchecking the ‘use visual editor’ box.

update May4 – Finally! It’s a good morning to see visual editor is fixed now.

I learned about Zenbe from TechCrunch when I was taking a quick look into tech news before going to bed. Zenbe has been in my head since then and I’ve been itching to try it out. The fresh email experience that Zenbe offers is really great!

What is Zenbe to me?

  • Zenbe is a webmail service (like yahoo and hotmail)
  • Zenbe is ad-free (unlike yahoo and hotmail)
  • Zenbe is FRESH (i wouldn’t call it a revolution yet, but it’s a step in a fresh direction)
  • Zenbe is Fast and Simple (yes! you don’t get all the clutter of ads and other stuff. just mail!)
  • Zenbe is very user-friendly (colors, layout, feel, everything)
  • Zenbe has collaboration tools (there are currently 12 modules to choose to add)
  • Zenbe has a other nifty tools (todolist, calendar, facebook tool)
  • Zenbe has file storage and sharing (it doesn’t offer multiple upload but that’s fine)
  • Zenbe is still beta (thanks to TechCrunch i got an invite)

In addition to this, Zenbe Blog has some introduction videos to Zenbe’s great features.

You can also read my personal review of Zenbe here. It’s not a full review yet, but it’s what I have so far.

This site was supposed to launch 2 weeks ago.

I had already written a post detailing the process that I had to go through to actually start a blog. But the host has decided to temporarily down their service to cleanup inactive ‘free’ accounts that was adding to clutter on their servers. It seems that I will have to re-write my post again, and from the looks of it, I’ll be stuck with wordpress.com for the meantime, until my WebsitesNetwork account goes up again… if it does go up again.
